Abstract

Perioperative medicine is undergoing a paradigm shift from the supportive role in surgery care to a data-driven, patient-centric specialty poised to define the future of precision surgery. This editorial explores this evolution, examining the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in risk prediction, the use of multi-omics markers in personalization, and the maturation of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols. It further addresses issues such as data disaggregation, bias in algorithms and implementation costs, which pose a risk to the equitable progress. In conclusion, it suggest that the future of surgical outcomes depends on redefining the perioperative risk and recovery in the molecular and digital precision.
